Samuel Davis, born in Gloucestershire, England where he was baptized 29 January 1629 at Twekesbury. The abbey at Twekesbury goes back to the 12th century. He was the son of Barnabas Davis and Patience James. His father traveled extensively back and forth from America between 1635 and 1639 leaving him with the care of his mother in England. The family finally migrated to Massachusetts to settle in 1639.
He married Mary Waters 20 March 1655/56 in Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. She was born 27 January 1637/38 in Watertown, Middlesex County Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lawrence Waters and Anna Linton.
The family had nine children. Of those a child Mary died young and another baby girl was named Mary in 1662. The first three children were born in Charlestown.
In 1660 he had purchased property in Groton. In 1663 he became the Supervisor of highways. Four more children were born at Groton. With the fear of Indian uprisings the family returned to Charlestown a year before King Phillip’s War for the birth of Patience in April 1664. The family eventually returned to Groton but were always plagued with fear of attacks. In 1691 the family was again garrisoned for protection.
Samuel Davis died 28 December 1699 in Groton, Middlesex County Massachusetts. Even after Samuel’s death Groton, in 1704, the village was attacked and Samuel’s son was killed in front of his own home. Samuel’s wife, Mary lived ten more years dying in 1714 and was buried at Charlestown.

ii. Mary Davis, born 26 January 1657/58 in Lancaster, Worcester county, Massachusetts; died Bef. 1662.
iii. Mary Davis, born 31 January 1662/63 in Charlestown, Suffolk County Massachusetts; married (1) Isaac Lewis; married (2) Thomas Pratt.
iv. John Davis, born 10 March 1664/65 in Groton, Middlesex County Massachusetts; died 25 October 1704 in Groton, Middlesex County Massachusetts. "...was killed by the Indians near his own door at Groton - and not Saml as incorreclty stated in Groton during the Indian Wars p 89. ....his house stood a short distance below the Groton School..."
v. Sarah Davis, born 12 August 1667 in Groton, Middlesex County Massachusetts; married Joseph Cady.
vi. Samuel Davis, born 08 January 1669/70 in Groton, Middlesex County Massachusetts; died 24 January 1738/39 in Littleton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
vii. Barnabas Davis, born 17 April 1672 in Groton, Middlesex County Massachusetts; died 12 August 1690 in Charlestown, Suffolk County Massachusetts.
