Family Chart #380

Ludwig Francisco was born about 1719 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Christophel Ludwig Franciscus and Anna Margaretha Schwab.

He appears in the Lancaster Quarter Session minutes on 1 February 1736 when John Tangler was prosecuted for assaulting and beating his father. Ludwig gave evidence against Tangler. He migrated some time after 1738 when his father purchased large land holdings in what by an Act of General Assembly had just become Augusta County, Virginia. It is not known if he married his wife Elizabeth prior to his move to Virginia or not. No record of the marriage has been found by researchers at this writing. Some researchers cite her maiden name as Colley. Ludwig and Elizabeth Francisco had their first son about 1744 in Augusta County,Virginia.

It appears that Ludwig along with his brother Stophel managed the 3800 acres of land his father had purchased. His father also conveyed Ludwick land on the north side of the Shenandoah River in July 1752 on Cub Run.

Thomas Lewis received a large grant on the Shenandoah River in 1763 which mentions Ludwick Francisco among others. On 8 February 1765 Valentine Metcher granted Ludwick Francisco and Charles Rush a mortgage for 25 lbs. and included 275 acres on a branch of the North River of Shenandoah. Then on 25 June 1769 "Ludwick Francisco, eldest son and heir of Christopher Francisco of Lancaster Borough Pennsylvania" sold Jacob Nicholas 390 acres being part of the 3800 acres purchased by his father. The deed mentions an old cabin on the property.

Ludwick [Lodowick] and his wife Elizabeth of Botetourt County sold John Young 180 acres on 10 October 1771 being the land conveyed to Ludwick by Christophel in July 1752 on the north side of the Shanandoah River on Cub Run.

The DAR Patriot Index lists a Ludwick with wife Elizabeth stating he was born in 1742 and died before April 1799. It may be that Ludwick did give patriotic service but the date of birth is not correct and is more likely another member of the family. By the time the Revolutionary War was effecting Virginia Ludwick and Elizabeth were in their late 50's. Researchers seem to agree that Ludwick died prior to April 1799 in Botetourt County, Virginia.
