John Hiatt [Hiett], born about 1674 in England. Some researchers state he was born in Gloucester and others state Somersetshire. At least one publication states he lived in the village of Shipton Mallet which is in Somersetshire. He married Mary Smith daughter of William and Grace Smith who became early Quaker settlers in Pennsylvania.
John Hiatt and his family migrated to America with William Penn on Penn’s final trip in 1699. In 1700 he purchased 300 acres of land in Bucks County from John Rowling. In 1702 John sold 300 acres for 400 pounds to Thomas Watson a tanner. In this deed which describes orchards, meadows and buildings is an exclusion for a cemetery that was fenced and lay near the dwelling house which was probably created by the Rowling family. The property was part of Strawberryhow in Falls Township and was later owned by the Watson family.
John made several other land transactions. One land transaction with Andrew Ellet [Elliott] describes 220 acres in Lower Makefield in 1704. The deed states that John is a resident of Makefield. Makefield was formed in 1692 when the county was subdivided. Another deed for Bucks County resident, Jasper Terry dated October 1714, Bucks County describes 100 acres in Bristol township bounded by Edmond Lovett...John Hiett and others.
that John Hiatt was alive in 1726, but do not show how much longer he lived.
