Henry Clayton died 20 December 1662. He married Esther Townson 27 April 1600 in Aldingham Parish, Lancashire, England. Their marriage is one of the earliest recorded in the parish. The Parish is in Lonsdale Hundred, District of Furness, Lancashire.

Lancashire is a maritime and northern county bounded on the west by the Irish sea. A portion in the north west forms Furness, detached from the main body by Morecambe Bay. In 1648, during Henry’s life the Scots directed by the Duke of Hamilton and Cromwell fought a sanguinary battle at Preston within Lancashire County. Many were slaughtered and the horror repeated three days later at Winwick. In 1651 Colonel Lilburne and others were taken prisoner in nearby Wigan.

Children of Henry Clayton and Esther Townson are:

i. John Clayton

ii. Clayton unknown issue male or female.

iii. Elizabeth Clayton

iv. Ann Clayton

v. Edmond Clayton, born 05 April 1602 in Gleaston, Lancashire, Eng; married Margaret --?--.
